These days it seems pretty unacceptable to have yellow teeth. Everywhere you look someone has a set of shiny whites. So today I've decided to do a review on two home teeth whiteners I've tried. I've used these products in the past, so I won't have photos for the results back then, but I've re-done one of the products recently.
Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects
I was originally looking into getting my teeth whitened professionally.. to which I found out was waaaaay out of my price range! I came across the Crest whitestrips on eBay, and was very wary of them to start. First off, I couldn't find them at any UK retailer online or in store. Secondly, I found out this is because the level of hydrogen peroxide it contains is over the legal limit. The actual amount that's legally allowed in teeth whiteners in the UK is 0.1%, compared to a whopping 10% that's in the Crest whitestrips. Every review I read was positive, so I decided to give them a go. I paid approx. £30 for 14 pouches. Two weeks worth of teeth whitening.
The first few days were a bit rough, I had some sensitivity on my bottom teeth, and around the back molars. To combat the sensitivity I rubbed a bit of Sensodyne toothpaste on the areas affected every night. After the two weeks were up, I was blown away! The results were amazing. People were complimenting me on how white they were. They say on their website that 30 days worth of strips is supposed to leave you with white teeth for a year. As I only did 14 days worth, I wasn't exactly sure how long the whiteness would last, so I was curious to find out in a few months time what they'd look like.
A year later and here I am again! To my amazement the results lasted a long long time. The whiteness obviously faded slightly, but only just now to the point where I think I'm due another round. I did 7 days this time. Here are my results:
Mr. Blanc Teeth Whitening Strips
Earlier on in the year I decided to give Mr.Blanc a go. I was happy with the way my teeth looked but I was curious to see what all the rave was about. This product popped up out of nowhere. Everywhere on Instagram and Twitter were celebrities posting pictures of their teeth and going crazy about the product. I thought if it was decent enough, then I could switch from Crest and potentially save my teeth a bit of damage (as MrBlanc doesn't contain any hydrogen peroxide). I went and I bought myself £15 worth of strips which gave me two weeks of whitening.
Well, after the first few days I wasn't at all impressed. My teeth had not turned a single shade whiter, but as there were so many good reviews I hadn't lost hope. Skip to the end of the two weeks, and my teeth looked exactly the same as when I started. I soon realised all the celebrities were obviously being paid to say all these wonderful things, and of course MOST, if not all, had already had their teeth whitened anyway by professionals. I mean, most of them involved were from TOWIE.
It's not even the fact that I wasted money that frustrates me. It's that there's so many products now that suddenly appear out of thin air, with celebrities and the instafamous being paid to say amazing things, when in fact the product is quite clearly... sh*t! I'm definitely thinking twice before buying into a temporary trend again.
